Horrific footage has been shared on-line by a human rights activist which purports to indicate Indonesian police torturing a person by locking him in a cell with a reside, two-meter-long snake whereas taunting and laughing at him.
Police in Indonesia’s easternmost Papua area apologized, but in addition claimed that the snake was not venomous and so they spared the suspected thief a bodily beating. Within the video, the handcuffed man, suspected of stealing cellphones, screams in concern as his interrogator laughs and a voice could be heard threatening to place the snake into the suspect’s mouth and trousers.

Human rights lawyer Veronica Koman shared the footage saying it was indicative of a tradition of racism in opposition to indigenous Papuans in Indonesia. One of many interrogators could be seen pushing the darkish brown snake’s head into the person’s face as he weeps and cries hysterically.
“We’ve got taken stern motion in opposition to the personnel,” police chief Tonny Ananda Swadaya reportedly stated in a press release. Swadaya added that the officers concerned had been disciplined, moved to different places, and despatched for added ethics coaching.
Sam Lokon, a member of the West Papua Nationwide Committee, reportedly confronted comparable interrogation strategies after being overwhelmed following his arrest in January.
