Greater than 4300 folks have signed a petition calling on Flinders Non-public Hospital to reverse its resolution to shut its obstetrics service from September.

Southern suburbs GP Margaret McShane, who gave start to 2 youngsters on the not-for-profit hospital and refers households to it, began the petition and says falling demand is more likely to reverse in coming years.

The closure means the closest non-public hospital for births for southern suburbs residents will likely be Ashford Hospital.

“Women from Seaford or Aldinga won’t drive up to Ashford to have their babies — they’ll end up going to Flinders Medical Centre and putting pressure on already-crowded public bed spaces,” Dr McShane mentioned. “We need the government to step in and advocate … for the people of the southern suburbs.”
